Sauvignon Blanc has many distinct and alluring characteristics. It is known for its unique aroma. Sauvignon Blanc grapes lend themselves to notes of citrus and grass. The herbal elements of the grass perfectly complement the fruit both in aroma and flavor. Some Sauvignon Blancs have elements of mineral, vegetable and even tropical in their flavor. Fumé Blanc is a variation on Sauvignon Blanc typically produced in California. It is distinct from typical Sauvignon Blancs in that it’s aged in oak barrels as opposed to stainless steel. The oak barrel can extend a smoky, vanilla profile to the Fumé Blanc.
Sauvignon Blanc is typically considered to be a drier white wine. One of the best qualities of this wine is that it can be enjoyed with or without food. It does not need to be paired with a dish, but at the same time, its versatility means it can have a place in any meal. Sauvignon Blanc can be paired with Caesar salads, chicken, creamy pastas and shellfish. It also goes great with many pre-meal appetizers such as dips. One of our favorite pairings is a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and some spinach dip. Below is great recipe!
1 package (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, cooked, cooled and squeezed dry
1 container (16 oz.) nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1 cup light Mayonnaise
1 package Knorr® Vegetable recipe mix
1 can (8 oz.) water chestnuts, drained and chopped (optional)
3 green onions, chopped (optional)
Just combine and mix all ingredients in a large bowl, chill and serve with veggies, pita chips or anything else you’d like to dip! Be sure to stop by d’Vine Wine & Gifts to find the perfect Sauvignon Blanc!
